Seminars
Photography (Beginner / Intermediate Session) - Session 1 - 8 AM – 12 PM
-
If you are new to photography, just picked up a digital camera after years of shooting film, or just want to brush up on the basics… This is the course for you! We’ll review images, talk about the basics of photography from proper handholding, lens selection, aperture and shutter speed, how to get sharp images, and the basic terms of digital photography. You’ll get a good handle on the basics of photography, and get pumped up to go out and shoot more!
Photography (Intermediate/Advanced Session) - Session 2 - 1 PM – 5 PM
-
Taking your photography beyond the basics takes being exposed to an array of simple (when you learn from experts), yet more complicated photographic tools, techniques and most importantly -- ideas. In this class we’ll go over tools for basic and intermediate photography such as filters and their applications all the way through concepts as advanced as creating visual depth. We’ll delve more into the digital realm to understand its limitations and how you can overcome them. Most importantly, we’ll look at photography in terms of communicating, and as an art. Bringing back what you see, with your eyes as well as your heart, requires knowledge beyond applying aperture and shutter speed. In this class we will also tackle the hardest concept for photographers to master, light. We’ll build on that with mastering your flash. We’ll then add color and tie it all up with composition and concept… You’ll learn how to bring life to your photographs so the viewer feels all that you felt when you were there. Imagine taking pictures worthy of publication! That’s what you’ll take away from this course.
Photoshop (Beginner/Intermediate Session) - Session 3 - 7 PM – 9 PM
-
The Photographer's workflow: a discussion of raw vs. jpeg, file backup, Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw overview. We will also cover a typical start to finish process: adjusting in Raw, opening in Photoshop, color tweaks, sharpening, saving, output. Along the way we'll look at typical challenges faced by digital photographers.

The cool breeze whips off the glacier and smacks you square in the face…the spruce tower along the shoreline illuminates a Bald Eagle perching atop a magnificent tree creating the perfect exclamation point for the landscape spreading out beyond your foot steps. Alaska is a land of extremes; most can be summed up in the adjectives gigantic, awesome, overwhelming and spectacular. How do you encapsulate all you feel, hear and see in such an environment in a single click of the camera? That's what we'll prepare you for in this class. Bringing visual depth to your photograph, composing it in the viewfinder, working the light and making the most of the lenses YOU have are just some of the topics we'll cover. You'll leave with lots of ideas that you can incorporate into your own style of photography.
